First Communion for those children who missed the sacrament due to lockdowns

Published / by St. Lawrence Hamilton

Dear Parents of the First Holy Communion Candidates,

As you know, prior to the school closures and shutdowns that occurred this spring we were planning for First Holy Communion which wasn’t able to proceed.  Additionally, a number of children in 2020 were unable to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion.

It is our wish that every student who wishes to receive this sacrament should have the opportunity and so we are proceeding with 2 dates in November for the celebration of the sacrament.

  • Friday, November 5 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, November 6 at 12:00 noon

These will be preceded by First Reconciliation on November 3, at 6:00 p.m.

NB these dates are ONLY for students who should have received the sacraments in 2020 or the spring of 2021.

Families must pre-register with the Parish to attend these celebrations, and the Parish office will then work with families to make sure all the appropriate documentation (baptism certificates, and parental information) is obtained before the sacramental celebration.

To register, please visit the registration by following this link First Communion / Confirmation Registration and our parish office will follow up with you to confirm your date and time.

On each date, we will be able to accommodate 16 families and each family will have 1 pew reserved for them so they can invite family members or friends to attend.  Each pew can accommodate up to 8 people, but we still ask that families allow for distancing if guests don’t live in the same household.

Some sacramental preparation suggestions will be provided to families in advance of the celebration of the sacraments, however we remind you that the best way to teach your children is by participating in Mass on Sundays together with them and by example at home.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Father Peter Jurzyk
